The Snowball-Effect Of Embedded Tweets

Building a large following on Twitter is easy. Attracting targeted followers, who are actually interested in what you have you have to say, is not so easy. Anyone can mass-follow thousands of random people and expect a fair few to follow back - many users use a ‘followers' total as a kind of status symbol and will happily return the favor, just to keep you on their list of followers.

But for anyone that is attempting to harness Twitter for business promotions, branding or marketing; this technique of random selection is practically useless. Thankfully, Twitter has provided a solution and if you are already optimizing a Twitter campaign by submitting quality tweets, this new method of attracting purposeful followers will require no effort at all.

So what is this exciting new promotional prospect?

Twitter is introducing embeddable tweets.

What this means is that any tweet can now be ‘borrowed' and embedded directly onto a website or blog - much the same as YouTube videos can be displayed. It has yet to be confirmed, but it is very likely that these embedded tweets will also come with easy reply and re-tweet functions, allowing readers to engage immediately with the initial tweeter, or pass the tweet on to others, without having to log in to their own Twitter account.

Zero Effort Followers

Any tweet embedded on a website can now be viewed by that site's readership. Most of these people will not presently be followers of the tweeters Twitter profile - this could all change. Anyone reading the embedded tweet could become interested in the original posters information, or outlook, and may decide to become a follower - so they can read future tweets.

Not only are these new followers people that the tweeter may never have connected with, they are now followers that are already pre-sold on what the tweeter has to say and on the topic being tweeted about.

Improve the Chances of Tweets Being Embedded

The chances of a tweet being embedded can depend on the following three factors:

  1. The content of the tweets

  2. Quantity of posts

  3. Current followers

The first factor is by far the most important. As part of any strategic Twitter campaign; a business, or marketer, should already be ensuring that their tweets are informative, topical, current and entertaining. If you want a tweet embedded - it will need to capture the interest of your present followers and convince them that others will also find it interesting. Whether they personally embed it, or re-tweet it to someone else who then embeds it, is irrelevant. The only crucial factor is the quality of the actual tweet.

Quantity of tweets speaks for itself really. The more tweets posted, the greater the chance of one being embedded. It is a law of averages. The first category is still in force; ALL tweets should be written as though they are there to be embedded.

Lastly, the chances of a tweet being embedded will also depend on current followers. One of your current followers will need to take an interest and embed the tweet, or pass it on to someone else who may embed it. Always be aware that one of your followers may have a popular blog, or website - or may know someone else that has.

It would not hurt to search out some media/news companies, or popular companies within your niche, or market, and see if they have Twitter accounts - if they do, follow them and hope they follow back. These are the type of members that will regularly use embedded tweets on their main websites.

Summary

Embedded tweets will offer the opportunity to attract new followers, increase brand recognition and provide free promotion for those tweets. If a business, or marketer, can attract the right followers and post useful, informative tweets that are likely to draw interest - they will improve their chance of having one, or more, of their posts embedded and may end up with a viral tweet.
